Economist Zubets: increasing the cost of vodka in Russia pursues two main goals In an interview with Sputnik radio, he revealed the reasons for the increase in prices for vodka.
According to the economist, the increase in the cost of alcohol in retail at the initiative of regulators has two main goals – to increase tax payments, as well as reduce consumption.
< p> Zubets emphasized that in the past, the increase in the minimum retail prices for strong alcohol has already had a positive effect, and may work now. “In recent years, the increase in real prices for alcohol in retail has led to the fact that Russia has become much less drinking. The country is no longer a leader in alcohol consumption, ”he said.
In addition, there is a“ borderline ”group of buyers of alcoholic beverages, which, due to price increases, refuses alcohol or reduces its consumption, the expert concluded.
Earlier, the Ministry of Finance came up with an initiative to increase the minimum cost of vodka. From January 1, 2022, the minimum retail prices for vodka are expected to grow by 7.4 percent, from 243 to 261 rubles per half-liter bottle. In addition, prices for cognac will rise by 7.6 percent, from 446 to 480 rubles for the same volume. The cost of the brandy will rise from 324 to 348 rubles. The Kremlin replied to this that the president has no position on this matter, and pointed out that raising prices is a matter of economic expediency.
