EU head of diplomacy Borrell: the fifth package of sanctions against Belarus will soon be adopted
The fifth package of European Union (EU ) against Belarus, this time because of the migration crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border. This was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell at a press conference following the meeting of the EU Council and the meeting of foreign ministers of the 27 countries of the community. His words are stated on the website of the Council of Europe.
As a result of amendments to the mechanism of anti-Belarusian restrictions, the EU will be able to impose restrictions on individuals and legal entities contributing to the policy of the regime of President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko to provoke the migration crisis.
“Today's decision reflects the determination of the European Union to oppose the political use of migrants. We are suppressing this inhuman and illegal practice, ”said the head of European diplomacy, speaking about the details of the changes adopted at the Council. He also noted that Brussels condemns Lukashenko's repression against the population of Belarus.
On November 15, it became known that the European Union refused to include Aeroflot in the sanctions list of airlines and travel agencies, which Brussels suspects of delivering migrants to Belarus. EU diplomatic sources said European authorities had no evidence against the Russian airline.
