Russians were scared of rising prices due to new duties

Half of Russians will refuse purchases abroad due to the new state duty of 15 percent abroad, they will be forced to abandon them due to the introduction of a state duty of 15 percent of the amount of the parcel, according to the data of a joint survey by VTsIOM and WANTA Group.

“Among those who have made purchases on foreign marketplaces over the past six months, 41 percent will stop ordering goods online from abroad if they have to pay the duty on their own for parcels over 1,700 rubles. Moreover, if a 15 percent duty is levied on any parcel, 53 percent will stop ordering goods from abroad online, ”the VTsIOM study says.

Despite the constantly growing domestic online retail market, many Russians continue to shop at foreign sites. According to the survey, 70 percent of respondents believe that it is impossible to find similar products at a reasonable price on domestic marketplaces, or they are not represented at all on the domestic market. At the same time, only 28 percent are convinced that the entire range of foreign online stores is available in Russia.

In Russia as a whole, 14 percent make online purchases because they cannot purchase the necessary goods in the stores of their locality. However, in small towns and rural areas, this indicator is significantly higher – 24 percent of respondents use online retail, because the goods they need are simply not available at their place of residence.

Also, 21% of Russians surveyed noted that the forced abandonment of foreign online shopping will affect the quality of life for them and their families.

“The increase in tariffs will negatively affect the overall pricing of e-commerce. The absence of healthy competition will allow domestic players to raise prices, “said Pavel Sigal, First Vice President of Opora Rossii.

According to the expert, one fifth of the population from small towns and villages is forced to order goods at foreign sites. Globalization and digitalization allow people from the provinces to dress fashionably and inexpensively, buy quality goods for children. It would be wrong to deprive them of this opportunity.

“Every fifth Russian who has made purchases in foreign online stores in the last six months and is ready to refuse such purchases if a duty is imposed on them (21 percent), believes that refusal to buy in foreign online stores will worsen both his position and the position of his family members, “the VTsIOM results.

According to the study, Russians who made purchases in foreign online stores for six months more often In total, they bought clothes, shoes and accessories (38 percent), household goods (29 percent), components for gadgets and cars, household appliances and electronics (24 percent each), as well as children's products (19 percent).
