Leko said that the Croats expected a more proactive game from the Russian national team. According to the athlete, the Russian team lacked confidence and Croatia deservedly won the victory.
Vedran Corluka, assistant head coach of the Croatian national team, also gave advice to the Russian team for play-offs. “We need to add eggs in key games,” he recommended.
On Sunday, November 14, the Russians lost 0: 1 to the Croats away. The only goal was scored by Fedor Kudryashov, who scored his own goal in the 81st minute of the match. The Russian national team with 22 points finished second in Group H and could not directly qualify for the World Championship in Qatar.
