Head of the Institute for Economic Development of Ukraine Goncharov: the country is boiling because of the mistakes of the authorities
waiting for a “new bottom” due to the economic crisis. He made such a warning as part of an interview with Glavred, RIA Novosti reports.
According to the economist, the coming winter will be the most difficult for the inhabitants of Ukraine in all the years of the country's independence. “It is already obvious to everyone that the energy block of the Cabinet of Ministers is not coping with the challenges of the crisis,” he stressed. The director of the institute added that the problems were caused by a reduction in gas supplies from the European Union, as well as a shortage of coal at Ukrainian thermal power plants. According to Goncharov, as of November 2021, 542 thousand tons of coal are stored in warehouses, when the norm is three million tons.
The economist criticized the actions of the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal and his statements that the country will fully provided with warmth next winter and ready for the heating season. Goncharov added that the Ukrainian authorities do not admit their mistakes, which led to a shortage of energy resources, and instead demonstrate “feigned optimism”, while the country is “boiling.” At the same time, it is noted that earlier the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko announced the need for 8.4 million tons of coal for the heating season in the country.
Earlier, the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia explained that the supply of thermal coal to Ukraine would stop growing demand in the Russian Federation and the need to provide the domestic market. At the same time, Russia will continue to import other types of coal into the neighboring country. In general, Russian exports will account for half of all Kiev's purchases.
In turn, Kiev refused under any circumstances to appeal to the Russian authorities and ask Moscow to resume supplies of thermal coal.
