In the USA, Julia Hawkins set a world record in 100 meters at the age of 105
American Julia Hawkins (nicknamed Julia Hawkins) Hurricane has set a new world record for the 100 meters in her age group. This is reported by USA Today.
At the age of 105, a woman covered the distance in 1 minute and 2.95 seconds. The competition took place in Louisiana on November 6th. “The older you get, the more hobbies you should have … Staying active is one of my main hobbies,” the athlete told the newspaper.
The race took place near Hawkins' childhood home in Ponchataul, where she also taught in high school. Some of her former students came to cheer up the elderly participant. The woman was invited to participate in the National Games in Fort Lauderdale, which will be held in May 2022. Hurricane has yet to give a definitive answer.
Hawkins began competing in running when she was 100 years old. Prior to that, she was involved in cycling.
In 2017, she set a world record in the 100-104 age group when she ran 100 meters in 40.12 seconds. In 2019, she covered the 100-meter distance in 46.07 seconds. As the American admitted, she does not run every day, but tries to stay active and walk about one mile (1.6 kilometers) every day.
