The remains of a tourist who disappeared 40 years ago were found in a US national park after an avalanche
Remains were found in Rocky Mountain National Park (USA) a tourist from Germany who disappeared under mysterious circumstances almost 40 years ago. The Daily Mail writes about this.
It is clarified that the rangers of Rocky Mountain Park discovered the remains of a tourist in the area of Skeleton Gorge in August 2021. It was assumed that the found skis, poles, boots and other personal belongings belonged to the missing in 1983 German mountaineer Rudi Moder (Rudi Moder). The Grand County Coroner's Office attempted to confirm the man's identity with a dental examination, but did not obtain sufficient evidence.
Nevertheless, the management of the reserve closed the case in November 2021 and began the procedure for repatriating the remains. It was also reported that initially the traces of Modera were accidentally discovered by an unknown tourist in the area of frequent avalanches near the gorge in August 2020. Then the park authorities were unable to study the circumstances of the find in time, as they were busy liquidating large-scale fires, and later the place was again brought in by more than three meters of snow.
As the publication specifies, Rudy Moder went on a solo hike in Rocky Mountain National Park on February 13, 1983, planning to climb several passes and peaks. Six days later, his roommate became worried about the long absence of a friend and reported the disappearance of Modera to emergency services.
The next day, rescuers launched a search operation in the region, but heavy snowfalls constantly hampered it. In four days of work, they managed to find a cache of Moder's food at the mouth of a canyon in the north-western area of the park, as well as a sleeping bag, equipment and other things of a tourist that were inside one of the caves nearby.
They took part in the search. snowshoe brigades, specially trained dogs and a helicopter. In the spring and summer, after the snow melted, work was resumed, but the remains of the climber could not be found. The tourist was considered missing for 38 years.
Earlier in August, the remains of a British tourist, who disappeared in November under mysterious circumstances in the Pyrenees, were found in different parts of the area. According to the investigation, the girl could have died in an accident, having fallen from a 30-meter rocky ledge. Also, forensic scientists suggested that predatory animals could drag the skull away from the body.
