Olga Amelchenkova: It's too early for Latvian nationalists to celebrate victory p>
“What unacceptable values does this symbol carry? Courage? Fighting Nazism? Love for your loved ones? I consider this a betrayal of memory and distortion of history for the sake of political goals. Our branch of the Latvian Victory Volunteers held rallies last summer against the ban on the use of St. George's ribbon at public events. Today the Seim of Latvia adopted this law. As one of the organizers of the action “St. George's Ribbon”, I want to say one thing – it is too early for the Latvian nationalists to celebrate the victory. We will not give up defending and upholding the truth about the war, about thousands of Soviet soldiers who saved Latvia and the whole world, “the deputy wrote on her Instagram page.
Earlier, the Latvian parliament supported a bill banning the use of St. George's ribbons during public events. The Seimas adopted the document in the third and final reading. The ban will apply to entertainment and festive events, meetings, processions and pickets.
