Russian illustrator Elena Barenbaum discovered her work in the Squid Game show
Russian illustrator Elena Barenbaum discovered her painting “Hares” in one of the episodes of the popular South Korean show Squid Game. The artist told Moslente about this.
“Friends, about 20 people already, sent me screenshots with a frame where my work appears. After that, I myself specially watched this series, but I did not record the moment with the appearance of “Hares”, can you imagine! ” – said Barenbaum, adding that about a year ago this image was bought from her under an exclusive license for a large sum.
“Who exactly bought, I do not know. Possibly Netflix. Although at one time there were many posters with this picture, and they sold well. Maybe one of them fell into the hands of the creators of the series. Or, in general, she appeared in the frame by accident … Honestly, I don't know, ”the woman summed up. She also noted that after the purchase, the painting was removed from all sites.
Earlier, the St. Petersburg artist, author of comics Vitaly Terletsky accused Magnit of plagiarism. He stated that the retailer had stolen his character for commercial use, stressing that it was “disgustingly mediocre”.
