Earlier it became known that the Sverdlovsk authorities are considering a ban on the sale of alcohol without a QR code confirming the fact of vaccination against coronavirus or a previous illness. It is clarified that the initiative belongs to the Ural restaurateur Evgeny Uryupin. It was he who suggested that the local government introduce such a system, since he believes that this will speed up the vaccination process in the Sverdlovsk region. In his opinion, this measure can be much more effective than QR codes in public catering.
Weighted decisions are needed
Regional authorities make independent decisions to combat the pandemic, Nilov recalled. He noted that in the current situation, any restrictions that would lead to herd immunity are good. However, the politician added, before making any decisions, the regional authorities should think about the social and economic consequences.
“It must be understood that, on the one hand, any restrictions on the sale of alcohol will lead to the fact that people will drink less – at least some part – which is good. But on the other hand, these are shortfalls in revenues for the budget – time. And two, most importantly, any restriction associated with the sale of alcohol creates a market for illegal alcohol. It just needs to be borne in mind, “he said.
