Three paintings by Van Gogh went under the hammer for almost 11 billion rubles

Vincent Van Gogh's famous work “Haystacks” was sold for 2.5 billion rubles

Christie's auction in New York for $ 154 million (about 11 billion rubles). This was reported on the trading house's Twitter account.

Works such as “A Young Man with a Cornflower”, “Haystacks” and “Wooden Huts Among Olives and Cypresses” went under the hammer.

< p> The famous painting “Haystacks” was sold for 35.9 million dollars (more than 2.5 billion rubles), which turned out to be almost six million more expensive than the maximum expected price. Van Gogh wrote it on paper in 1888 during his stay in Arles. After the death of the artist, the canvas was inherited by his brother Theo.

Then the work changed several owners, after which it was seized by the Nazis during the occupation of France during the Second World War. As a result, until the end of the 1970s, the whereabouts of the painting remained unknown.

In September, a previously unknown pencil sketch of the artist from 1882, signed with his name, was presented at the Vincent Van Gon Museum in Amsterdam. The drawing has been kept in the family's private collection in the Netherlands for over a century.
