According to Zelensky, he spoke with Garibashvili by phone and noted that the rights of a citizen of Ukraine Saakashvili “must be fully guaranteed in accordance with international norms.”
“I applied for admission to Mikhail Saakashvili of his mother, relatives, as well as Ukrainian doctors,” Zelensky said.
In 2015, Saakashvili received Ukrainian citizenship and became the governor of the Odessa region … In July 2017, then President Petro Poroshenko revoked his citizenship after the conflict. The politician returned to Ukraine after Zelensky came to power and headed the executive committee of the National Council for Reforms.
In Georgia, Saakashvili was sentenced in absentia to six years in prison.
