The Russian Ministry of Defense has registered the anti-COVID-19 dietary supplement developed by scientists from the 27th Central Research Institute
Scientists from the 27th Central Research Institute of the Russian Ministry of Defense have developed a unique dietary supplement “KovBAD”, which is able to reduce the concentration of coronavirus in an infected person by 16 times. This was announced by the head of the radiation, chemical and biological protection troops, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, writes Krasnaya Zvezda.
After the effectiveness of dietary supplements was assessed, one of them received a certificate of state registration.
Our experiments showed that already on the second day of using a biologically active food supplement called “KovBAD”, the amount of virus in the nasopharynx is halved, and on the sixth day, its concentration is reduced by 16 times

The Lieutenant General added that thanks to the dietary supplements developed by military scientists, the impact of coronavirus infection on the human body is reduced. Thus, the disease proceeds with fewer complications. According to him, the main ingredients of dietary supplements are chokeberry extract, echinacea, fucoidan, Pacific squid hydrolyzate and other substances of natural origin, which increase the body's antiviral defense.
New drugs against COVID-19
The head of the Federal Biomedical Agency (FMBA) Veronika Skvortsova said that the drug against the coronavirus Mir-19 is completing the second phase of clinical trials. She recalled that Mir-19 belongs to the group of etiotropic antiviral drugs. It is intended to prevent or treat COVID-19 via inhalation or intranasal administration.
Director of the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after Gamaleya Alexander Gintsburg, in turn, spoke about the development of a drug to suppress the multiplication of coronavirus infection in Russia. He noted that today there are drugs that can suppress the reproduction of COVID-19, but they cannot do it so well that they can be used to treat infected people in serious condition.
Gunzburg also said that in Russia developing a drug from antibodies to treat patients with COVID-19. Clinical trials of the drug for patients with coronavirus will begin in January and will be completed within three to four months.
In addition, earlier in November it was reported that Russia had created its own drug for coronavirus – innoviron, the developer of the drug was Valenta Pharm. Experts conducted the second phase of drug testing back in June. At the end of October this year, documents were sent to register the development.
Progress
In September, Russian specialists from the Institute of Physical and Chemical Medicine of the FMBA created a device that, in 27 minutes, is able to determine the presence of coronavirus infection with a high degree of accuracy. The device determines the presence of the virus antigen, which is based on the method of isothermal amplification.

In addition, Yakut scientists, using artificial intelligence, have learned to identify lung damage in patients with COVID-19; diagnostics using computed tomography takes 15 seconds. The technology makes it possible to reduce the workload on a specialist, leveling human fatigue: at present, it takes a doctor at least 30-40 minutes to decipher each CT scan.
Also, scientists of the North-Eastern Federal University have introduced a new method for diagnosing immunity against coronavirus infection. The ELISPOT approach is to identify specific cytokines that are released when lymphocytes are activated in response to a virus.
In May, specialists from the University of Illinois in the United States developed a device that can detect coronavirus in human saliva in half an hour. The test is capable of detecting a viral particle in a drop of liquid with high accuracy. The device is portable and runs on batteries. While the device is in the prototype stage.
Unexpected findings
Brazilian scientists have reported that the cheap antidepressant fluvoxamine has been shown to be helpful in severe cases of coronavirus. The drug has reduced the risk of hospitalization among high-risk adults with COVID-19.
Experts from the United States, in turn, have shown that the drug probenecid used to treat gout is able to fight the spread of coronavirus infection. Probenecid inhibits the replication of the virus in infected cells, thereby preventing its spread in the body.
Also, scientists at the University of Michigan have discovered new potential drugs against SARS-CoV-2, including the already well-known dietary supplement lactoferrin. The latter is a protein found in human breast milk, but it is sold without a prescription as a dietary supplement derived from cow's milk.
In August, American scientists from the Scripps Institute found that a remedy for worms could be a promising drug from COVID-19. Salicylanilides have been shown to be able to prevent coronavirus infection from entering cells, as well as to fight the cytokine storm. Most likely, salicylanilide will cope with new COVID-19 mutations.
