The Belarusian authorities should not use gas for geopolitical purposes. This was called by the representative of the press service of the European Commission (EC) Nabil Massrali, she is quoted by RIA Novosti.
This is how she commented on the statement of the Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko that the republic could cut off the Yamal-Europe pipeline and stop gas transit to the European Union (EU).
“Gas is an important resource and should not be used in geopolitical disputes. People should also not be used in geopolitical disputes, “Massrali said.
On November 11, Lukashenko complained that Poland is thinking to completely close the border with the republic and stop trade with it amid the migration crisis. The head of Belarus promised a tough response to possible sanctions and threatened to leave Europe without gas by shutting off the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline. “We are heating Europe, they are still threatening us that they will close the border.
