Ukraine's Security Council imposed sanctions against four Russians

The NSDC decided to impose sanctions against eight citizens of Russia and Nicaragua

to the opening of a Nicaraguan office in Crimea, Vesti.ua reports.

Four Russians were included in the sanctions list. Their names have not yet been announced. “These are eight individuals – four citizens of Nicaragua and four citizens of the Russian Federation,” said NSDC Secretary Alexei Danilov.

In November 2020, Ukraine imposed sanctions against Nicaragua for opening a consulate in Crimea. Kiev called the emergence of the institution “an openly unfriendly step” that “promotes the aggression of the Russian Federation and its attempt to annex” the peninsula.

The Government of the Republic of Crimea reported that the Consulate of Nicaragua was the first representation of a foreign state on the peninsula since 2014 … Oleg Belaventsev, ex-plenipotentiary of the President of Russia in the North Caucasus Federal District, was approved as Honorary Consul. The ambassador of Nicaragua came to the opening of the institution.

Crimea became part of Russia in March 2014 after a referendum on the peninsula. Ukraine considers it an occupation.
