The Washington Times: Because of Russia, the United States revived a Soviet-era unit in Germany
The American army is returning a Cold War unit with the USSR to its units stationed in Europe – we are talking about the 56th artillery command based in Germany. The reason for this is the intensification of the alleged threat from Russia, writes The Washington Times.
“We really did not have enough,” the publication quotes the commander of American troops in Europe and Africa, General Christopher Cavioli.
It is emphasized that the reason for this decision is the growing tension between the Russian state and NATO. The 56th command has not operated since 1991 due to the ratification of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF Treaty). Washington withdrew from the treaty unilaterally in 2019.
Earlier in November, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova spoke about Russia's relations with the West. She blamed Washington for the stalemate.
