Immunologist appreciated the idea of making vaccination against coronavirus mandatory

Immunologist Kryuchkov believes that one mandatory vaccination against COVID-19 in the Russian Federation will not be enough

Immunologist Nikolai Kryuchkov said will not be enough to stimulate the majority of the population to get vaccinated against the coronavirus. He shared his opinion in an interview with Lenta.ru.

Earlier, Alexander Gintsburg, director of the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after N.F. Gamaleya, said that vaccination against coronavirus should be included in the national vaccination calendar. Gunzburg believes that the pandemic will end when 70-75 percent of the world's population is vaccinated against COVID-19. “For this, of course, this drug must be included in the national vaccination schedule. And vaccination should be mandatory, “he urged.

To avoid the onset of a new pandemic, children and their parents must be taught to be vaccinated in order to “be normally perceived in society and be a full-fledged citizen of the society in which you live.” According to Gunzburg, people without a coronavirus vaccine harm not only themselves, but also their loved ones and others.

Additional measures are needed

Kryuchkov agreed that it was time to include coronavirus vaccination in the national immunization schedule. “Now the reason for this has already appeared, since Sputnik V has completed the third phase of its exploration. Now the drug may well be included in the national vaccination calendar, “he added.

The immunologist stressed that the introduction of compulsory vaccination against coronavirus will not be a panacea. In addition to introducing COVID-19 injections into the national immunization schedule, it is important to understand how this process can be controlled.

“When we introduce an obligation, we must understand how we will monitor compliance with it. It may happen that we will introduce an obligation, but a significant part of people will still not be vaccinated. Here, in addition to the obligation, other measures of a systemic nature are needed, which would stimulate people to vaccinate, on the one hand, and on the other, would make it inconvenient to receive any non-essential services for people who do not have a QR code, for example, “said the immunologist.

He added that the authorities should not forget about positive incentives. In his opinion, they were hardly involved in the vaccination company. As an example of a positive incentive, Kryuchkov cited the lottery, although he called it a weak measure.

“We have vaccinated, relatively speaking, 35 percent of the population. Another 25 percent can be vaccinated absolutely calmly without any cardinal global costs. Then we will run into an even more stubborn part of the population, and in the end there will be absolutely zealous anti-axers. Well, there will already be nothing to do. But if we vaccinate the rest, it will be a very big contribution. Another 40 percent can be safely vaccinated, especially since these people are neutral or weakly negative. But compulsory vaccination alone is not enough, “Kryuchkov noted.

Earlier, Gunzburg said that a drug from antibodies would appear in Russia to treat patients with COVID-19. Clinical trials of the drug will be launched in January, they will last three to four months.

Mandatory vaccination against COVID-19 was introduced in St. Petersburg for residents over 60 years old. These citizens will have to enter the first component of the vaccine by December 15.
