Russia responded to accusations against Putin of delivering migrants to EU borders

Political scientist Bashirov: Putin can mediate between Lukashenka and Europe Belarus by Alexander Lukashenko and the European Union, political scientist Marat Bashirov suggested in a conversation with Lenta.ru. He added that what is happening on the border of the two states will have minimal impact on Russia, since the country has nothing to do with migration flows.

Earlier, the German newspaper Bild accused Putin and Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan of helping Lukashenka with the delivery of migrants from the Middle East to the borders of the countries of the European Union.

Arbitrator between Europe and Lukashenko

The political scientist recalled that Russia has nothing to do with the topic of migrants on the border of Poland and Belarus: refugees fly directly to Minsk, or with a transfer via Istanbul. “At the same time, everyone knows that Erdogan has long been on the topic of migration. Moreover, Turkey receives about 10 billion euros a year to stop migration flows on its territory – this began several years ago, when many refugees from Syria and Afghanistan appeared. So the German newspaper just remembered a very old story, “Bashirov said.

He drew attention to the fact that refugees are on the territory of Belarus legally: the existing UN convention concerning migrants forced to flee due to the unstable situation inside the country recommends first accepting everyone who asks for help, and only then go into details. In this part, according to the political scientist, Poland violates international obligations.

“As for the fact that Putin was dragged into this story, it is not worth paying special attention to, such accusations are often made indiscriminately. On the other hand, Russia may well turn out to be an arbiter between the EU and Lukashenko: Europe denies that the head of Belarus was legally elected and refuses to talk to him, so our country's mediation might make sense. But this will happen only when the situation becomes very acute and tragic stories begin: after all, it is cold there, there are children, armed people from both sides. When humanitarian organizations start ringing the bells, Putin may be asked to intervene, ”the source of Lenta.ru suggested.

Bashirov is sure that Poland will be forced to let refugees through its border, but, in his opinion, it will this is a month and a half later, when the number of migrants will reach 10-15 thousand. At the same time, one must understand that they will not stay inside the country anyway, he noted. “Migrants flee to Europe knowing exactly which towns and communities they will come to. They go not just somewhere, but where their relatives, the diaspora, are. So they will definitely break through to Europe. By the way, they are not interested in Russia: we have a different registration procedure, it is more stringent, there are certain quotas. I think that those who have decided to be in Europe are unlikely to exchange everything for our country, “the political scientist concluded.

The migration crisis on the border of Belarus and the EU countries began after the Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko threatened to weaken control over the flow of refugees and drug trafficking. This happened against the backdrop of yet another aggravation of relations between Minsk and the West.
