Putin's spokesman Ivanov: incineration of garbage can become a source of renewable energy
Sergey Ivanov called garbage an eternal source of energy. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to Ivanov, environmentally friendly waste incineration can become one of the renewable energy sources, since garbage is eternal. “If we are talking about a green transition, then here is an additional renewable energy source for you,” he commented and explained that garbage is eternal, like the sun and wind, and will never end.
He also refuted the established opinion about incinerators. “Our people think that the incineration plant is a chimney, like a crematorium, which fumes and spews out a lot of smoke,” he pointed out and added that in fact this is not the case.
For their part, environmentalists urged the Russian authorities not to draw energy from garbage. Representatives of Greenpeace sent a letter to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment calling to stop the development of projects for the production of refuse-derived fuel, which is harmful to the planet, which is obtained by burning waste. Environmentalists insist that waste fuels threaten the environment and human health. When garbage is burned, dioxins, cadmium and benzene, dangerous for the human body, are released. In addition, the production of RDF fuel is not regulated by law, which means that factories can save money on high-quality treatment facilities.
Earlier, FinExpertiza calculated the amount of waste that every Russian throws away annually. According to the study, on average, every inhabitant of the country dumped just over 450 kilograms of household waste in 2020.
