Political scientist Salin: Lavrov's article has two goals – the consolidation of the population and a signal to the West
: Cooperation without Borders ”by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. In his opinion, the politician pursued two goals – to re-launch the campaign to consolidate the population inside the country and to send a signal to the West that Russia is restraining tensions in neighboring states. The specialist shared his opinion in an interview with Lenta.ru.
Earlier, Sergei Lavrov, in his article “Russia and Kazakhstan: Cooperation without Borders”, said that xenophobia towards the Russian-speaking population of Kazakhstan was the result of the influence of external forces that want to cause discord between Moscow and Nur-Sultan.
He stressed that in this way the Kazakhs are instilled with local nationalism and discrediting cooperation with Russia. However, such actions, according to Lavrov, are quickly suppressed due to strong bilateral relations between the countries.
Signals inward and outward
Lavrov's article was written to achieve two goals at once, Salin said. First of all, the publication is aimed at consolidating the Russian-speaking population. “In this way, the authorities are sending a signal to the interior of Russia. In the summer, there was already an attempt to launch a campaign in the interior of the country to consolidate the population in the face of an external threat, let's call it like this: “our people are beaten abroad.” In particular, in August there was information about the oppression of the Russian-speaking population abroad. Then it was not possible to launch the wave, now Mr. Lavrov is trying to do it for the second time, “the political scientist noted.

In his opinion, this is not the only purpose of the article. Also, the publication is aimed at making it clear to the Western world that the region is stable. “The second goal of this article is to send a signal to the outside that Russia is trying to contain tensions in neighboring states in order to receive certain bonuses from the West. Basically, this goes in the Ukrainian direction, but they do not forget about Kazakhstan either, apparently, on a leftover principle, “Salin said.
On November 3, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova noted that despite the privileged status of allied relations between Moscow and Nur-Sultan, the Kremlin is closely monitoring the manifestation of ethnic intolerance in Kazakhstan.
