Japan will start charging smartphones via 5G

SoftBank intends to charge devices via 5G

Japanese holding company SoftBank intends to add wireless charging of gadgets to its 5G base stations. This is reported by Nikkei Asia.

According to the sources of the publication, the Japanese giant intends to test the technology for remote charging of phones, headphones and other equipment in the near future. Wireless power transmission devices will be installed at 5G base stations. The Japanese government intends to give permission for testing in the near future.

Testing will take place as part of the modernization: SoftBank will begin replacing 200,000 4G base stations across Japan with 5G versions. Along with the new equipment, special transmitters will be installed at the station. The electrical charge will travel in the high frequency range of 28 gigahertz, which is used in 5G communications. According to sources, to charge the gadgets, you just need to go to the base station.

To prevent the negative effects of electricity on the human body, the power of the transmitters will be limited. So, at a distance of up to 10 meters, about one milliwatt of energy will be transmitted. SoftBank plans to start making money on this technology in 2025.

Earlier, Ericsson experts said that the introduction of 5G will have a positive impact on the ecology of the planet. It is estimated that in this case, the amount of carbon dioxide emissions in the European region will be reduced by 55-170 million tons.
