Gazprom refused to book additional gas transit capacity through Ukraine
Russian energy company Gazprom refused to increase natural gas transit through Ukraine. The company did not begin to book additional capacities for pumping fuel through the territory of a neighboring country on November 9, writes TASS, citing data from RBP and GSA Platform platforms. volume of up to 9.8 million cubic meters per day through the Sudzha gas distribution station and up to 5.2 million cubic meters per day through the Sokhranovka station. However, according to the results of the auction, Gazprom did not take advantage of the offer. According to the GSA Platform, the auction also offered capacities for pumping 57.6 million cubic meters per day via the Yamal-Europe pipeline through Poland on November 9, which also remained unclaimed.
Pumping Russian gas to Europe through the territory of Ukraine in 2020 amounted to 55.8 billion cubic meters – the lowest volume in the last 30 years. At the end of October 2021, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed Gazprom to increase gas injection into European storage facilities after filling underground storage facilities in Russia on November 8. Thus, Putin intends to help the region overcome the energy crisis.
In ten months of 2021, gas transit from Russia to Europe through the Ukrainian gas transmission system (GTS) decreased by 22 percent compared to the same period in 2020. In January-October this year, the volume of fuel pumped amounted to 35.3 billion cubic meters, and a year earlier – 45 billion cubic meters.
