The Ministry of Internal Affairs named the reason for the participation of adolescents in protest actions

Ministry of Internal Affairs: most adolescents go to protest actions out of curiosity This was stated by the Deputy Head of the Department of Law Enforcement in the Residential Sector of the Main Directorate for the Protection of Public Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Maria Koltsova during the round table “The right of children to safety: modern challenges and effective practices”, which was posted on the YouTube channel of the Federation Council.

She said that about one and a half thousand teenagers were taken to the police for participating in uncoordinated actions. For what period this was done, Koltsova did not specify.

According to a representative of the department, the Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted a survey among minors who took part in these events in August 2021. According to the results of the survey, it turned out that more than 60 percent of respondents went to shares out of curiosity, 17 percent – for a company with friends, and two percent wanted to make money.

Koltsova noted that after preventive work, 80 percent of adolescents said, that they refuse to participate in such actions.

Earlier, the Investigative Committee of Russia and the Supreme Court supported a bill proposed by State Duma deputy Yevgeny Marchenko, which provides for criminal punishment for involving minors in unauthorized protests. At the same time, later, the Government Commission on Legislative Activities refused to support the project, noting that the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation already provides for liability for this crime.
