Famous Russian virologist advocated compulsory vaccination

Virologist Pyotr Chumakov: there are few Russians vaccinated against coronavirus, “we need to shout about it”

Engelhardt Institute of Molecular Biology Petr Chumakov spoke in favor of compulsory vaccination in Russia. The well-known virologist noted the low level of vaccination and said that “we must shout about it.” He expressed his opinion on the air of Radio Russia.

The doctor noted that in the conditions of the spread of the delta strain of coronavirus, it is important that about 80 percent of the population be vaccinated. As of November 5, as follows from the data of the operational headquarters, herd immunity in Russia is 48 percent.

“This is very unpopular, of course, what I’ll say, but I believe that there should be compulsory vaccination … They may simply crucify me there, but I think that [it is necessary] in the name of these people who are now resisting, ”the virologist said, adding that later these people will thank them for being forced to be vaccinated.

Chumakov stressed that 80 percent is the result that is needed now. At the same time, according to him, further may be needed and more. “And if it continues like this, there will be another [strain],” epsilon “, for example, some kind, then it is possible that 90 percent will be needed,” the specialist added.

Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Health Mikhail Murashko, during a working trip to the Ryazan region, said that the rate of vaccination against coronavirus in Russia has increased by almost four to five times. He believes that this is the merit of the latest coronavirus restrictions, including “pushing the population to get vaccinated.”
