Poroshenko called Russia’s recognition of the DNI and LC documents “proof of occupation”
The Ukrainian President accused Moscow of violating international law.
Moscow. 18 Feb. INTERFAX.RU President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that Russia’s decision on recognition of the documents of the breakaway republics of Donbass violates international law.
“For me it is another proof of Russian occupation and Russia’s violation of international law”, — said Poroshenko following the meeting with the Vice-President of the United States by Michael Penny.
Earlier the Secretary of Council of national security and defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov said that with the signing of a decree on the recognition of passports and other documents of LC and the DNI, the President of Russia legally recognized quasi-state groups and out of the Minsk process.
In the breakaway republics, however, welcomed the decision of the Russian President. In particular, the LC called Putin’s decree on the documents of the republics of Donbass step to global recognition of the LC and the DNI.
Today, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the recognition in the Russian Federation documents issued to citizens of Ukraine and stateless persons permanently residing on the territories of separate districts of Donetsk and Lugansk regions. As stated in the document, the decision was made “in order to protect the rights and freedoms of man and citizen, guided by the universally recognized principles and norms of international humanitarian law.”
