The state Duma Committee on nationalities fall will hold a visiting session in Crimea, where he will discuss the possibility of granting Russian citizenship to Crimean Tatars. On Friday, February 10, reports TASS with reference to the Chairman of Committee Ildar Gilmutdinov.
“Today, some of them are not able to get Russian citizenship, because they have to provide a certificate from previous place of stay, in particular Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan these references, unfortunately, does not issue for different reasons,” said Gilmutdinov.
He added that the Committee members intend to learn what national programmes are in the Crimea and how they are implemented.
On 9 February, the leader of the public movement of the Crimean Tatar people “kyrym” (Crimea) Remzi Ilyasov said that he was ready to speak to the UN a report on the life of their compatriots in the Russian Crimea.
In April 2014, after the reunification of the Crimea with Russia, Putin signed a decree on rehabilitation of Crimean Tatars and other peoples of Crimea who suffered from repression. Crimean Tatar language in the region was recognized as an official along with Russian and Ukrainian.
Crimea reunited with Russia in March 2014 following a referendum. Kiev does not recognize the election results.
