Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the staff of the foreign Ministry on their professional holiday, noting that the focus of foreign policy must be the fight against terrorism and extremism.
“The diplomatic service of Russia can be proud of their achievements. But our country faces the challenges do not become easier. Focus should definitely be the fight against terrorism and extremism. To eradicate these threats is impossible without joint efforts of all States,” — said in a telegram published on the Kremlin website.
According to the Russian President, the diplomats should continue to strengthen peace, stability and security. Much remains to be done for a fair settlement of global conflicts near Russia’s borders and in other parts of the world, Putin said.
The President thanked the families of Russian diplomats for their support and expressed the hope that the foreign Ministry will continue to work with full dedication, to effectively address the challenges ahead and do everything possible to protect the interests of Russia and its citizens.
Professional holiday-the diplomatic worker’s Day celebrated in Russia on February 10. This day was established by presidential decree on 31 October 2002. Choosing holiday dates associated with the history of the first foreign Minister of Russia — ambassadors of the order, the earliest mention of which dates back to February 10, 1549.
