UN calls restrictions due to omicron strain unfair and ineffective

UN Secretary General Guterres: restrictions due to the omicron strain are unfair and ineffective entry restrictions due to the omicron strain. He wrote about this on his Twitter account.

“Given that the virus really knows no borders, travel restrictions that isolate any country or region are unfair, repressive and ineffective.” wrote the Secretary General.

Earlier, the head of the technical group of the Emergency Diseases Unit of the World Health Organization (WHO) Maria Van Kerkhove said that a new omicron strain of coronavirus infection had already been identified in 38 countries of the world, but the delta strain remains dominant. It is noted that the main increase in infections is observed in Africa.

The strain under the code B.1.1.529, which was given the name omicron, was identified in South Africa on November 11. The country's health minister said that it is easily tolerated by vaccinated patients, however, according to available data, it can bypass the immunity of those who have recovered from other variants of the virus.
