Belarus after the conflict with the EU intends to develop an economic partnership with Beijing … The corresponding directive was signed by the President of the country Alexander Lukashenko, the press service of the Belarusian leader reported.
“The document is aimed at further deepening the strategic partnership between Belarus and China in a wide range of areas in 2021-2025,” the statement says. Within the framework of the signed document, Belarusian officials will have to implement about 50 specific practical measures.

Minsk announced its intention to develop economic cooperation with Beijing against the background of the aggravation of the conflict between Belarus and the EU due to the migration crisis on the Belarusian-Polish border. On December 2, the European Union approved the fifth package of sanctions against Belarusian individuals and legal entities involved in “hybrid actions of Belarus to instrumentalize migrants”. In response, Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko announced the imminent introduction by Minsk of legislative restrictions against the West.
Lukashenko's new directive aims to bring relations with China to a qualitatively new level. To achieve such a result, Belarusians wanted to strengthen cooperation in the political sphere, as well as within the framework of the Chinese global initiative “One Belt and One Road”, which creates new transport corridors to connect with China around the world.
Previously, China downgraded diplomatic relations with the European Union member Lithuania due to the decision of Vilnius to approve the opening of a representative office of Taiwan. China also excluded Lithuania from its customs system.
