He noted that mutations inherent in the omicron strain increase the infectivity and binding of the virus to receptors, and also potentially increase its penetration into cells and affect the increase in infectivity.
The head of Rospotrebnadzor stressed that preventive measures remain the same and are aimed at reducing the likelihood of transmission of COVID-19 from one person to another.
Popova also said, that to date, no omicron-strain of coronavirus has been identified in Russia. She explained that in the framework of monitoring the genetic structure, research is constantly being carried out.
