Moldovagaz repaid its debt to Gazprom in the amount of $ 74 million after an ultimatum from a Russian company. This was reported by the press service of Moldovagaz.
The energy company said that they had transferred payment to Gazprom for gas supplied in October and the first half of November 2021. The day before, on November 25, the Moldovan parliament urgently approved the transfer of money to the Russian supplier. The amendments to the legislation were adopted after the Prime Minister of the Republic Natalya Gavrilitsa asked about it.
Moldovagaz could not find a commercial solution to pay the debt, which is why the government's help was required. The company had no money, since it bought gas at a price of $ 790 per thousand cubic meters, and the tariff included a much lower amount. It is assumed that from November the tariff will be increased.
On November 22, Gazprom warned Moldova that it would stop gas supplies if the republic did not pay the debts for October and November within 48 hours. Pending the adoption of the necessary amendments to the legislation, Moldovagaz asked Gazprom for a delay. The Russian supplier agreed to extend the deadline until November 26 and expressed the hope that payments will be made on time in the future.
