Kiev promised to prevent the transformation of “Nord Stream-2” into a weapon

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kuleba: there should be no exceptions for Nord Stream 2 in the European Union

Kiev, the European Commission and a number of EU countries believe that there should be no exceptions to European legislation for the Nord Stream 2 project. This was stated by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, Interfax reports.

“Ukraine, together with a number of EU countries and the European Commission, insists that Nord Stream 2 should be completely subordinate not only to the spirit, but also the letter of the EU's Third Energy Package, ”the Foreign Minister said. He also said that Kiev, together with Europe, are trying to prevent Russia from being able to carry out the transformation of Nord Stream 2 into a “northern weapon.”

According to him, Ukraine, together with European partners, has significantly slowed down the implementation project and won a lot of time for “better conditions for the confrontation with Russia.” Kuleba noted that he sees the efforts of lawyers and lobbyists of the Russian Federation, who are allegedly trying to find gaps in European legislation and create some special conditions for the project. “But we insist that there should be no exceptions,” he promised.

Earlier, the head of the Ukrainian GTS Operator Serhiy Makogon said that it is highly probable that Nord Stream 2 will never be launched at full capacity .

The construction of Nord Stream 2 was completed on September 10. The gas pipeline will run from Russia to Germany along the bottom of the Baltic Sea. Nord Stream 2 consists of two lines, each 1234 kilometers long. The gas pipeline's capacity is 55 billion cubic meters per year.
