Ukraine received the first shipment of imported coal from the United States

DTEK received the first of seven consignments of imported coal under a contract with the USA and Colombia

The first of seven ships with coal within contracts concluded by the private company DTEK (Donbass Fuel and Energy Company), owned by businessman Rinat Akhmetov. This is stated on the DTEK website.

It is noted that a Panamax-class vessel arrived at the Yuzhny port in the Odessa region. It is noted that the coal is intended for the state needs of TPPs of PJSC “Centerenergo”. The volume of the first consignment amounted to 60.5 thousand tons.

DTEK reported that to date the company has entered into agreements with international partners on the supply of seven shiploads of coal. Five of them will be imported from the USA, two more – from Colombia.

“The volume of each batch is from 40 to 75 thousand tons, as a result, the total volume of supplies is almost 470 thousand tons,” the company noted. At the same time, it is expected that all consignments will arrive in Ukraine from November 2021 to January 2022. The next batch is expected at the end of November, four – in December and one – in January.

The company stressed that the import of coal is a temporary measure to cover the fuel shortage, and the use of coal mined on the territory of Ukraine remains in priority.

The fact that Ukraine is going to import American coal became known on November 10. Yury Vlasenko, the first deputy head of the Ministry of Energy of the republic, spoke about this. At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky refused to buy coal from the “separatists” in the unrecognized Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR).
