The Russian Foreign Ministry announced an “explosive” situation in Europe because of NATO

Head of the Russian delegation in Vienna Gavrilov: NATO has lost touch with reality

NATO has lost touch with reality, the head of the Russian delegation said at negotiations in Vienna on military security issues Konstantin Gavrilov, commenting on the words of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg about the possibility of transferring US nuclear weapons to the countries of Eastern Europe. RIA Novosti reports on the diplomat's reaction.

“These statements are yet another confirmation that NATO-based Brussels has finally lost all connection with reality. The current situation in Europe is already explosive, “Gavrilov said.

According to the diplomat, with the new statements, Stoltenberg actually ignored the Russian call for de-escalation of tensions in Europe. If the NATO secretary general's threats about nuclear missiles approaching Russia's borders become a reality, NATO should understand the consequences of such a step, the Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

Earlier, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Alexander Grushko also responded to Stoltenberg's words. The Deputy Minister considered such plans a violation of the Founding Act on Mutual Relations, Cooperation and Security between Russia and NATO. Grushko stressed that, according to the obligations assumed in 1997, the NATO leadership has no right to deploy weapons, especially nuclear weapons, on the territory of the new members of the alliance.

On November 19, the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance at the NATO Talk 2021 conference in Berlin told reporters that if Germany refuses to host American nuclear missiles, then the alliance will consider alternative options, including in eastern Europe.
