Deputy Head of the Gamaleya Logunov Center: antibody titers of 200-300 BAU/ml protect against COVID-19
Deputy Director of the Gamaley Center Logunov on the air of the Russia 1 TV channel called the level of antibodies necessary to protect against coronavirus. His words are quoted by TASS.
“About 200-300 BAU/ml are those antibody titers that provide a significant level of protection, about 80-90 percent. Rather, it should protect even from the middle course of the disease, “Logunov said.
Also, the deputy head of the center said that today there is no specific antibody titer that could protect the body from COVID-19. “Because there are, albeit rare cases, infections even at 1000 and even at 10 000 BAU/ml,” he stressed, adding that therefore it is very difficult to determine a completely protective titer from an asymptomatic and mild course, and, in fact, it has not been established.
Earlier, the Russian immunologist Nikolai Kryuchkov said that the production of the maximum amount of antibodies against COVID-19 depends on the vaccine and the scheme of its administration. Another condition for the development of a maximum of antibodies, the expert called the age of a person – in people under 60 years of age, more antibodies are produced than in the elderly. However, according to him, it is important that there are no chronic diseases or immunodeficiency.
