In an interview with “Lenta.ru” he noted that the migration crisis on the border of Belarus and Poland, not least of all, has a negative impact on Russia's relations with European partners. “As for trust, which is a very important element in any negotiation process, I believe that all interested parties should“ take a step back ”and develop a more pragmatic approach,” he said.
On November 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry published correspondence between the head of the ministry, Sergei Lavrov, with colleagues from France and Germany, in order to avoid distortions of Moscow's position regarding the meeting of diplomats in the “Normandy format” and “to prevent further speculation” on this topic. The German diplomatic department said that Berlin and Paris regard the publication of the correspondence as a violation of diplomatic practice.
Lavrov himself explained the decision to publish the letters with the phrase “got it.” According to the minister, in previous weeks, European colleagues had made “arrogant, not very ethical statements” trying to present the situation in such a light as if everyone was ready for negotiations, and Lavrov personally “did not want”, despite the instructions of the Russian president.
