Barcelona beat Espanyol in the first leg under Xavi
Barcelona won the Catalan derby over Espanyol with a score of 1: 0 in the championship match in Spain. This was reported by the Lenta.ru correspondent.
The meeting took place at Camp Nou. The blue garnet opened the scoring in the 48th minute. The penalty was converted by the Dutch midfielder Memphis Depay. This goal was the only one in the match. Thus, Barcelona managed to win the first match under the leadership of the new head coach – Xavi.
The first transfer of Xavi to Barcelona was Dani Alves' return to the club. The Brazilian defender has agreed to play for the Catalans for the minimum allowed salary in La Liga – 155 thousand euros per year.
Xavi took over FC Barcelona on 6 November. The agreement with a specialist is calculated until the summer of 2024. As head coach of the Catalans, he replaced the Dutchman Ronald Koeman. Prior to that, Xavi headed the Qatari Al-Sadd.
Xavi spent most of his career playing for Barcelona. The midfielder has eight victories in the Spanish championship and four Champions League cups. He played 505 games for the Catalans and scored 58 goals.
