Sheremet suggested that the United States would not enter into a direct armed confrontation with Russia. “For this, they have vassals in the person of other states,” he explained.

The reason for the comment was an article in the Business Insider publication about the report of the US Special Operations Command (USASOC). It argues that American special forces must be prepared to face foreign military forces of comparable training and equipment. China and Russia were named as possible adversaries, and potential targets could be A2AD systems (restriction and denial of access and maneuver) in the South China Sea and Crimea.
