Doctor of Science Sivkov: America has increased the accuracy of nuclear bombs intended for Russia
Circular probable deviation of B61 family bombs of previous generations with a parachute system, was 400 meters, the Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Missile and Artillery Sciences (RARAN) for information policy, Doctor of Military Sciences Konstantin Sivkov told Zvezda.
According to him, equipping modern B61 with homing equipment Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) significantly reduced their CEP and increased the likelihood of hitting a target. “Such equipment was tested during the bombing of Yugoslavia – more than 650 JDAM bombs were dropped on targets, and, according to statistics, the ammunition reliability rate was 96 percent. At the same time, 78 percent of the targets were hit, “the expert said.
The Deputy President of RARAN recalled that the modernized American tactical nuclear weapons deployed in Europe are designed to contain Russia and revealed their possible accuracy. “The evasion of this tactical weapon after being dropped from the carrier is on the order of several meters (if I am not mistaken, up to six meters), thanks to which it is possible to precisely destroy protected objects, spending less ammunition,” the specialist noted.
In November, Popular Mechanics magazine wrote that the American fifth-generation F-35A Lightning II fighters will receive B61-12 thermonuclear bombs to strike Russia. The publication noted that the B61-12 is a tactical nuclear bomb designed for high-precision destruction of enemy protected shelters. The weapon's power in TNT equivalent, as the magazine assured, will not exceed 50 kilotons.
In October, American F-35A Lightning II fighters tested the B61-12 bomb drop at the Tonopah training ground in Nevada.
