US urged to treat Saakashvili fairly

The State Department called on the Georgian authorities to admit ex-President Saakashvili to all court sessions

Earlier, Price called for Saakashvili's rights to be respected. He declared the need to follow the laws of Georgia and its international obligations in the field of human rights.

Mikhail Saakashvili was detained on October 1. He returned to Georgia after eight years of emigration to take part in protests. At home, the ex-president was sentenced in absentia to six years in prison. While in the prison in the city of Rustavi, Saakashvili went on a hunger strike. On November 8, he was transferred to a prison hospital in Tbilisi.
