Former head of intelligence of Ukraine Burba: the Ukrainian government has a “mole” working for Russia
Former head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Vasily Burba said that there is a “mole” in the Ukrainian government that works in the interests of Russia. He stated this on the air of the Ukraine 24 TV channel.
According to him, this was one of the reasons for the failure of the operation to detain 33 Russians in 2020. “From my analysis, from my leadership experience, I can say that this is a failure thanks to the people who are in the offices of power and, in my opinion, are leaking and transmitting information to the enemy,” he said. Other reasons for the failure, he called the poor training of the Ukrainian special services and the good work of counterintelligence in Belarus.
On July 29, 2020, Russians were detained in Belarus on charges of preparing riots before the presidential elections. Some of them had Ukrainian passports. Kiev requested their extradition, but the Wagnerites returned to Russia. Later, the editor-in-chief of the Ukrainian website Censor.net, Yuri Butusov, said that they wanted to lure out the Wagnerites and use them to exchange prisoners with Moscow, but the operation fell through because of Zelensky. Zelensky himself called it nonsense.
According to Bellingcat and The Insider (both included by the Russian Ministry of Justice in the list of foreign agents), the plane with the Wagnerites was planned to land in Ukraine under threat of an explosion on board. The special operation was scheduled for June 26, 2020. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was first briefed about her on June 15. He approved the project and asked for a detailed plan, which was approved by the Minister of Defense on July 1.
