The Russian embassy outraged at the persecution of Russians in the United States

The Russian Embassy in Washington demanded that the US stop pressure on the Russian diaspora in the statement of the diplomatic mission. RIA Novosti writes about this.

“The reason is the continuing unprecedented pressure on the representatives of the Russian-speaking community from the American authorities for a number of years,” the embassy said in a statement.

They noted that they were outraged by the “hostile actions of the United States” against the Russians under the pretext of suspicion of working in the United States without registering as foreign agents. The diplomatic mission assessed the corresponding steps as unfriendly towards the Russian Federation.

The embassy pointed out that FBI officers sometimes rudely conducted searches and interrogations of representatives of the diaspora, and confiscated personal belongings. “We regard these actions as unfriendly towards the Russian Federation. Thus, the US authorities are denying immigrants from Russia the right to maintain contact with their historical homeland, to take an active part in preserving their own cultural and linguistic heritage, ”the message says. The embassy added that the public activities of Russians “are absolutely open and transparent.” “However, officials continue to ignore our calls to provide the community with basic rights, which are spelled out, among other things, in the first amendment of the US Constitution,” the hippodic representatives concluded.

Earlier, the Coordinating Council of Organizations of Russian Compatriots in the United States (KSORS) suspended its activities due to the investigation of the American intelligence services. The decision to close it was made due to the activities of the FBI in relation to KSORS. Throughout 2021, at least 300 Russians in the United States, from students to retirees, were subjected to FBI investigative measures, the council noted.
