“He asked the [prison] administration to invite the Ukrainian consul and lawyer Nika Gvaramia. Until they come and together with us he does not make a decision, he will not leave here, “Kherkheulidze said.
The Ministry of Justice had previously offered to transfer Saakashvili from a prison hospital in Tbilisi to a military hospital in Gori. The head of the Ministry of Justice noted that this requires the consent of the prisoner himself.
The office of the Ombudsman of Georgia reported that the doctors who visited Saakashvili found he had a serious brain disease, due to which the ex-president could fall into a coma and die. The day before, the politician fainted at a meeting with lawyers.
Mikhail Saakashvili was detained in Georgia on October 1 after he returned after eight years of emigration. Previously, he was sentenced in absentia to six years in prison for the murder of a banker and beating of a deputy.
