Saakashvili asked Americans for rescue

Bloomberg: Former President of Georgia Saakashvili asked the United States for protection urged the United States to intervene in his situation for the sake of democracy in Georgia. Bloomberg reports this with reference to the letter of the politician.

According to the information agency, the ex-leader of Georgia spoke about the beatings and humiliations in prison. He pointed out that once he was dragged along the asphalt under the ridicule of other prisoners, and asked the Americans for salvation.

“If the United States does not come to protect me, this will be a terrible signal for all pro-Western leaders and peoples,” the publication leads Saakashvili's words from the notes sent through lawyers. In addition, the prisoner said that the Georgian authorities did not allow him to attend the court hearings and refused to transfer him to a civil hospital.

It is noted that the Ministry of Justice of Georgia refused to comment on these statements. It is also indicated that the situation of Saakashvili is unfolding in conditions when in all countries of the post-Soviet space the determination of Western countries is called into question due to the strengthening of Russian influence. According to the authors of the material, this is confirmed by reports of the pulling of Russian troops to the border with Ukraine and the migration crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border.

Earlier, State Department spokesman Ned Price called on the Georgian authorities to treat Saakashvili fairly. He noted that the ex-president has the right to an honest process, including the opportunity to attend court hearings in person.
