The coronavirus pandemic may end in 2022, but the delta strain is still exist for a long time. This forecast was shared by a virologist, chief researcher at the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology Anatoly Altstein at the conference “Treatment of COVID-19 and the epidemiological situation,” Izvestia reports.
The specialist expressed the hope that deaths in the future will be less.
“The delta strain is special: it has adapted to the human society most well and spreads most efficiently,” said Altstein.
Earlier, the virologist Altstein said that Russia could reach a plateau in the incidence of COVID-19, but its level will remain high. He noted that the situation with a high number of cases of COVID-19 will remain until the moment of universal vaccination.
