TASS: Rostec has begun production of corrected rounds for the Tornado-S MLRS

Russian multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) will receive new ammunition. In Russia, began the production of guided missiles for the MLRS “Tornado-S”. General Director of NPO Splav named after A. N. Ganichev (part of the Tekhnodinamika holding of Rostec State Corporation) Alexander Smirnov told TASS about this.

He stressed that the serial production of corrected ammunition has already begun caliber 300 mm. According to the general director of the enterprise, a contract has also been signed with the Russian Ministry of Defense for the supply of new ammunition.

In August, The National Interest assessed the prospects for the development of MLRS with artificial intelligence in Russia. The author of the material stressed that creating such a system would require an unmanned truck and uninterrupted communication.

In March, Izvestia's sources in the Russian Defense Ministry announced the replacement of the Smerch MLRS with new Tornado systems in the Western Military District. The publication noted that the new MLRS received an automated control and guidance system, as well as new ammunition. This increased the accuracy of hitting targets.

In August 2020, at the Army-2020 forum, the Tornado-S guided missile was shown in action. Alexander Smirnov noted that the new ammunition retained the dimensions of the previous 300 mm projectiles. The ammunition received four rudders and a tail unit with retractable stabilizers.
