Peskov called the resolution of the US congressmen not to recognize Putin as president
The draft resolution by US Congressmen Steve Cohen and Joe Wilson, which proposes not to recognize Russian President Vladimir Putin as head of state if he decides to run for this position in 2024, does not fit into the framework of modern international relations. This is how Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded to the appearance of this document, TASS reports.
According to Peskov, this initiative of American parliamentarians demonstrates to the whole world that the United States is officially interfering in the internal affairs of other states. At the same time, Washington considers such resolutions to be unacceptable in Moscow.
“We are convinced that only Russians can determine who and when should be president of the Russian Federation,” the press secretary of the Russian leader emphasized. >
He added that the proposal of the US congressmen looks so unfortunate that it does not need any response from Russia. At the same time, Peskov noted that Russian parliamentarians have already begun to actively respond to the American resolution.
Earlier it became known that US Congressmen Cohen and Wilson submitted to the House of Representatives a resolution on non-recognition of the presidential elections in Russia in 2024 in if Putin takes part in them. At the same time, it was noted that if this document is adopted, it will be of a recommendatory nature.
Russian parliamentarians criticized the initiative of American politicians. Thus, the vice-speaker of the Federation Council, Konstantin Kosachev, considered the draft resolution to be interference in the internal affairs of the country, and the head of the temporary committee of the Federation Council for the protection of state sovereignty and prevention of interference in the internal affairs of Russia, Andrei Klimov, suggested that the American parliamentarians were thus trying to promote themselves before the summit for democracy.
