France accused Lukashenka of taking hostages

French Foreign Minister Le Drian called Lukashenko a dictator and accused of taking hostages

… This opinion was expressed by French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, reports Le Monde.

The diplomat called the events on the border a vile and criminal initiative. He accused President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko of taking hostages and called on Russian leader Vladimir Putin to influence Minsk. According to the head of the French Foreign Ministry, the Belarusian leader is a dictator who is used to using illegal methods in his politics.

Le Drian stressed that the situation requires new sanctions against official Minsk and the manifestation of a firm position on the European side. “This problem should be treated as an organized and cynical provocation,” he concluded.

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron stated the need to continue pressure on Lukashenka to put an end to the use of migration flows on the border with Europe. During negotiations with the President and Prime Minister of Poland Andrzej Duda and Mateusz Morawiecki, the French leader reaffirmed his full solidarity with Warsaw.

Since the beginning of November, the migration crisis continues on the Polish-Belarusian border. Thousands of refugees from the Middle East are trying to penetrate the territory of Poland and other European countries. The Polish security forces have to use additional forces to contain their pressure. The European Union accused the official Minsk of aggravating the situation with migrants.
