Beer historian Pavel Egorov: the only traditional type of Russian beer is kvass
a kind of Russian beer that everyone can taste today. He expressed his opinion in the material “Lenta.ru” about people restoring old recipes of beer.
Egorov said that since the time of Peter I, domestic brewing was strongly influenced by the West – both Soviet and Russian varieties were brewed according to recipes of Western brewers. However, there is a truly Russian type of beer that is sold in every store and which anyone can buy today. Such a drink, according to him, is kvass.
“Kvass is the same beer. Accordingly, this is a traditional Russian variety, which is still extremely popular and extremely developed here in Russia. Kvass is brewed by many factories, “the specialist said.
He also noticed that modern kvass, sold in large quantities, is closest to the so-called Russian black beer, since classic kvass was prepared using lactic acid fermentation, while today's made using ordinary yeast.
Earlier it was reported that an American from Ohio withstood 46 days of Lent, eating exclusively beer. In addition to the intoxicating drink, he occasionally drank unsweetened tea, coffee and soda.
