A 60-year-old US patient recovers from chronic migraine with a plant-based diet
US scientists report an unusual case of a patient with severe headaches who managed to recover from migraines with a plant-based diet. This is reported in an article published in the journal BMJ Case Reports.
It is noted that the patient was a 60-year-old American who struggled with frequent migraines for 12.5 years, but the headaches were immune to all traditional methods of treatment, including drugs. Six months before contacting specialists, the migraine became chronic.
Doctors advised the patient to adhere to a specialized daily diet LIFE (Low Inflammatory Foods Everyday), which contributes to a low level of inflammatory processes in the body. This diet is fortified with the nutrients found in green leafy vegetables (such as lettuce, kale and spinach), beans, and fruits.
Within two months, the frequency of headaches dropped from 18-24 days to one day per month , and after three months the migraines completely stopped. According to scientists, the effectiveness of the diet is far superior to drugs that are usually used to reduce the frequency of headaches by 50 percent. The patient has not complained of pain for at least seven and a half years.
However, independent experts note that a single case does not allow generalizing the results to everyone who suffers from migraines. It is estimated that over a billion people worldwide suffer from headaches. At the same time, a health-promoting diet can be a drug-free alternative that has no side effects.
